Right Whale Days at the New Bedford Whaling Museum

Image
On Monday, April 20th, NECWA had a great time at Right Whale Days sponsored by the New Bedford Whaling Museum. Mary, Val and Krill worked with the kids to make and decorate origami right whales and right whale flukes. Not only did we have lots of fun, but we also were able to sneak in a lot of content and information about whales and other marine wildlife.  Lots of fun by one and all. The New Bedford Whaling Museum is a fabulous place to visit and is appropriate for kids of all ages. Check out their website at www.whalingmuseum.org

Herring Run Festival in Middleboro

Image
We had a great time at the second annual Herring Run Festival in Middleboro this spring. Over 6,500 attended this two day event. Not only were the numbers of participants strong, but the herring were strong. NECWA created a new activity just for this festival. Krill created a "Herring Heart" activity where kids could color and learn about river herring and their importance to the food web. The kids had lots of fun decorating their heart and we did too.  A big thank you to the NECWA staff and interns who volunteered their time to man the NECWA tent over the course of this festival. Thank you to Krill, Mary, Will, Amanda, Jack and Mary Lou.

Wonderful Time at Paint Night

Thanks to everyone who attended our first annual paint night at Studio Life Arts in Fall River. We had a great time painting a humpback whale fluking off Race Point, Provincetown. Many NECWA staff, interns and friends joined us for what turned out to be an incredible evening. A big thank you to Holi and Ronda from Studio Life Arts for a job well done. We had so much fun that we hope to return soon for another paint night event!
