Beach Cleanup This Saturday at Scusset Beach! A Fun Family Event!

New England Coastal Wildlife Alliance (NECWA)
Volunteer for a Beach Cleanup at Scusset Beach State Reservation

Date: Saturday, September 21, 2013
Time: 9 am – 11 am
Location: Bathhouse/Snack Bar at Scusset Beach

Team Work!
The New England Coastal Wildlife Alliance (NECWA) is sponsoring a beach cleanup at Scusset Beach State Reservation on Saturday, September 21 from 9 am to 11 am. This beach cleanup is part of a larger effort through COASTSWEEP, the Massachusetts-wide coastal cleanup that occurs during September and October. And our beach cleanup at Scusset Beach is in conjunction with the Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR), Captain John Boats and Plymouth Whale Watch.

COASTSWEEP cleanups are organized by the Massachusetts Office of Coastal Zone Management (CZM). Each fall, thousands of volunteers collect tons of trash from beaches, marshes, riverbanks and the seafloor. These cleanups are part of the International Coastal Cleanup organized by the Ocean Conservancy in Washington, D.C. Last year alone, 2,588 volunteers cleaned 139 miles of coastline, collecting more than seven tons of trash.

NECWA will be meeting at the bathhouse/snack bar at Scusset Beach at 9 am. We will spend a few hours cleaning the beach and then return for refreshments and a free nature-themed raffle. Check our NECWA News blog at www.necwanews.blogspot.com for updates on this event.

Please join us at Scusset Beach and let’s have fun spending time outdoors with family and friends, new and old. All are invited for this is a family event. NECWA and COASTSWEEP will provide all the necessary supplies, including protective gloves, garbage bags and data sheets for this cleanup effort.

Sunday, September 8th Seabird & Whale Tales Excursion

Seabird & Whale Tales Excursion on Sunday

September 8, 2013

10 am to 6 pm

Boarding time: 9:30 am

September 8m 2013 Update:
The weather is looking good and we are a resounding GO. Please be down at the docks by 9:30 am so we can leave the dock at 10 sharp or earlier if everyone shows up on time. We may have rain in the morning, but it should only be scattered showers today.

Looking forward to a fun day offshore. Best, Krill

September 7, 2013 Update:
The trip is still a GO. The weather is looking OK for a trip to Chatham if needed.

You can keep an eye out on the weather by checking the marine forecast for Stellwagen Bank by visiting http://www.erh.noaa.gov/er/box/

Once there, click on the appropriate colored sector for Stellwagen Bank and Chatham.

There is an slight chance of rain in the afternoon, so bring your rain gear.

Please be at the dock by 9:30 am and line up down at the boat. We may stay out later than 6 pm so put money in the meters for up to 7 pm. I don't think that Plymouth charges after that time.

We will have lots of great food and drinks in the galley for purchase, but you are welcome to bring your own food, just nothing in glass and no alcohol please.

Looking forward to seeing you tomorrow. Krill

August 28, 2013 Update:
Our all day marine wildlife cruise is a GO. We now have enough people to pay for the charter fee. We will be leaving the dock at 10 am and returning at 6 pm. Please be down at Town Wharf by 9:30 am ready to board. Space is still available if you know anyone who would like to join us.

Best, Krill

August 24, 2013 - Plymouth Waterfront Festival

Team NECWA: Ashleen, Nick, Krill, Leah and Anna!
Today NECWA staff and interns participated in the Plymouth Waterfront festival. NECWA has been part of this festival for many years and we had a wonderful time once again at this event.

We spoke to a lot of great people today and made a lot of new friends. All in all a wonderful day filled with sun, friends and laughter. Thanks so much to our NECWA interns who helped man our educational booth including Anna, Lauren, Katherine and Ashleen.

Also a big thanks to our NECWA staff who helped Krill over the course of the day including Mary, Val, Tammy, Tiffany, Leah and Tiffany's mom (Catherine).

What a great team effort.  Go Team NECWA!
